As a wedding photographer, I’ve captured love stories at many different Indianapolis wedding venues throughout the years. Indy has such a diverse wedding venue offering. You can find locations that have an urban, traditional, industrial, or natural vibe — and often times, all within the same block! There truly is a venue for everyone, and I love getting to shoot at a variety of new locations. However, there are certain Indianapolis wedding venues that will always be personal favorites!
I really enjoy photographing bright, open, and airy spaces, as it best compliments my editing style. That doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy darker venues, too — after all, it’s truly the couple that matters most! I am thrilled to tell the story of all my couples regardless of their location, but there are specific things that always make my heart sing a little more. :) Outdoor ceremonies, large windows, classic spaces, gorgeous lighting…give ’em all to me!
With this in mind, I thought it would be helpful to compile a list of my favorite downtown Indianapolis wedding venues for brides wanting that light and airy feel to their day. Obviously, the biggest dictator of this will be the photographer you choose: shooting and editing styles have a huge impact on the final look of an image.
However, the actual physical space does really make a difference on the final image, too. When you combine a bright and airy wedding venue with a photographer that specializes in light-filled images, it’s quite simply the perfect match! And, if you haven’t guessed yet…I fall into the light and airy editing style of photographers, to say the least. :)
So, here are some of my top venue choices in the greater Indianapolis area for brides wanting a bright and airy feel to their wedding day! Enjoy!
I mean, it doesn’t get much more light & airy than getting married inside a glass-enclosed globe floating above the city! The Indianapolis ArtsGarden is connected to the Conrad Indianapolis hotel, and it is situated right in the heart of downtown Indy. I love the unique structure and design…it’s a wedding venue unlike any other! The space lends itself to a variety of wedding themes and decor, and I love the pop of color the trees provide, too. It’s absolutely gorgeous! I also like this venue a lot because the ceremony and reception can take place in the same spot, with guests mingling on the balcony for cocktail hour during the room swap. Yay for staying in one place!
Another favorite Indianapolis wedding venue of mine is the Central Library. The event space has a similar set up to the ArtsGarden (all the windows!), but my favorite part has to be the ceremony option. The Central Library is another all-in-one venue, and there are so many amazing options for bridal party photos, too! It’s located right across the street from the War Memorial Park & Plaza, and there are also some gorgeous side gardens and alcoves around the actual library itself.
Another wedding favorite, The Alexander is also a one-stop-shop: my brides often get ready in one of the bridal suites at the hotel, and then both the ceremony and reception can take place inside the building, too. I love the eclectic decor — it’s modern and funky and colorful, while also being bright and airy, too! The hotel is also right next to a super fun wall, and getting to sneak my couples out to the parking garage next door for sunset portraits is an absolute DREAM!
Elegant, classic, and romantic: Laurel Hall has it ALL. Chris and I were lucky enough to participate in a styled shoot by Molly Carr Photography, and it was absolutely gorgeous — the perfect light and airy venue for a timeless wedding. I love that you can catch a variety of backgrounds in one location, from the architecture and design inside to the iconic steps and balcony outdoors and open grassy area, too!

The Indianapolis Conrad is another one of my favorite hotels to work with! Not only is their staff amazing, but they just simply deliver a perfect experience. The indoor spaces aren’t exactly light and airy at first glance, but the ability to take photos in the Conrad Penthouse most DEFINITELY puts this venue on the light and airy list! Ahh!
Like I said before, the getting ready areas and ballrooms may not seem incredibly bright and airy at first, but with the right photographer (ahem, like perhaps, me!), you can still have gorgeously lit images! The rooms have a lot of dark wood and red carpeting, but you’d never know. :)
I absolutely adore this venue! Located right on the canal and next to the White River Garden State Park, the Indiana State Museum is the picture-perfect wedding venue for any bright and airy bride. The lighting is gorgeous, and there is a really neat balcony and Indiana statue, too! The museum has a few different ceremony options, but my absolute favorite is in the circular alcove right outside — it’s so intimate and unique! I have second shot a few weddings at this location, but I haven’t done one of my own yet (#bucketlist). However, I have taken many wedding parties around the museum for bridal party photos, so I’ll share some of those here!
Located right across from the Indiana Museum of Art, the Woodstock Club is another great option for brides wanting a light and airy feel to their wedding day! The reception space is absolutely dreamy, and I love the classic feel the entire venue exudes regardless of where you are. If the weather is decent, cocktail hour can take place outside, too! #bonuspoints
I am SO excited to photograph Christina and Kevin’s wedding at the Ritz Charles Garden Pavilion this summer! It’s been on my wedding venue bucket list ever since moving back to Indianapolis, and I can’t wait to capture all the details of their day. I’ll be sure to update this post with some photos after their day…so check back in a few months. :) I especially love how simple and timeless this venue is…it’s absolutely beautiful!
Again, these are all just some favorite venues that stick out when I picture a light and airy wedding day. In no way do I think weddings are better or worse for being in different spaces that may be darker or more traditional!! After all, that’s why you book a professional; it is my job to work with whatever I am given and make it beautiful!
Next week, I am going to share my other favorite kind of venue — wedding barns! :) Can’t wait!
