While you can learn a lot about me by following along on Instagram or checking out my About Me page, there are quite a few things you’re just never gonna know unless, well, ya know! I love getting to share the stories of my clients with you, but I thought it could be fun to share some little-known facts about me as well today :)
(One of my favorite shots from our wedding… captures our goofy selves perfectly :) Yay Jamie!)
1. Let’s start this list off with my go-to fact I always use to seal the deal in Two Truths & A Lie: I wasn’t born in one of the 50 states! Technically, I was born in a DISTRICT — Washington D.C to be precise :) From there, I grew up ALL over the place! I’ve lived in Maryland, Missouri, Virginia, Florida, and Indianapolis…and now Cleveland!
2. Due to two years of homeschooling in 4th & 5th grade and the ensuing boredom, I can pogo-stick without using my hands. Preeeeeetty talented, if ya ask me! Haha! I even used to up the challenge by completing activities while pogo-sticking….drinking lemonade, unwrapping Tootsie Roll candies & eating them, bouncing a rubber ball…the possibilities were endless :)
3. I’ve always had blonde hair, except for that one time I tried to dye it dark brown my junior year of high school after watching “Walk The Line”…and it turned pinkish/orange. Oops? I don’t know what’s more embarrassing: the fact that I rocked orangish hair for a month or so, or that I was too stubborn to admit it just wasn’t going to work and tried to dye it AGAIN my senior year!!
4. My first concert? Kelly Clarkson!!!! It. was. amazing.
5. If you know me, you may know I have a bit of a Netflix binge-watching problem with TV series! (Recent favorite: House of Cards!! Ahhh!!) But, it didn’t used to be this way…I never had cable growing up, so I didn’t watch much TV. That is, until I fell head over heels in love with a little town called Tree Hill. :) :) My high school role model was Naley, I still think of Nathan Scott first when I see the #23 in basketball (much to my husband’s dismay), and, for the record, I will ALWAYS be Team Brooke! (If you don’t know what I’m talking about, please go to your nearest TV and start watching One Tree Hill :) You’ll thank me!)
6. Speaking of high school, I was slightly obsessed with all things Show Choir!! I performed in an all girl’s show choir (Hipstreet) and coed show choir (New Dimension) and LOVED it!! We competed across the state Glee-style and thought we were the coolest, like, ever. Think sequined costumes, bedazzled false eyelashes, clip-on pony-tail extensions, purple lipstick, and SPANKS galore!
7. I don’t talk much about my other full-time job on here, but when I’m not behind the camera, you can find me teaching English 1 and Creative Writing to 120+ high schoolers during the week! I absolutely love teaching and am so thankful for the opportunity to reach that unreachable student…even if it doesn’t always work. Teaching has given me the ability to persevere despite difficulties, to celebrate even the smallest triumph, and to serve those around me with gratitude and joy!
8. Despite being an English teacher, I have a slight problem where I mix up common phrases all. the. time. It’s super inconvenient, but also a bit hilarious! Phrases I have struggled with in the past: Do you lose your “train of thought” or “track of thought”? If you’re in a hurry, do you want to “bucket over there” or “book it over there!”? Is it a “ship full” or a “boat load” of homework? Ayayayay!
9. While some people like to start their morning off with a cup o’ joe, I typically kickstart my day with one of two options: a Tazo Chai Tea Latte OR McDonald’s Coke. Despite this, I still am minorly obsessed with coffee mugs — especially those cute initial ones from Anthro!! So much so, that one time I poured an ice-cold Coca-Cola into a mug just for fun!
10. And finally, when I was little, my life’s aspiration was to be a 7-11 Slurpee operator when I grew up. No joke, it’s in my Kindergarten “About Sami” book!!! I was never quite sure how it would all go down, but I do recall picturing myself with a cute little 7-11 apron, choosing the perfect color straw & licking that extra slurpee slush off the top of the lids before handing them to my happy customers :) A girl can dream, right?! Haha!!!
And that’s it! Ten random facts about yours truly! Make sure to check the blog later this week for an opportunity to tell me a little more about yourself, too :)
And for absolutely no reason other than the fact that G is stinking cute, here is a photo of my favorite Colts fan from last week!!
Happy Monday!
Love love love,
Sami
