I feel like, in the new baby process, maternity sessions are often the most skipped over.
There’s a lot to prepare and even more to budget, and, as a result, those late pregnancy images tend to get left behind.
(This is my unofficial opinion based off of our own personal experience with (not) booking a full maternity session. Haha!)
However, after photographing quite a few this past year, I am starting to fall in love with everything they stand for.
You see, maternity sessions are all about anticipation.
Anticipation of that tiny little person and the monumentally huge impact he or she is going to have on your life.
These images, these frozen moments in time capture the eagerness and excitement for all that’s yet to come, and at the same time they record the peace and quietness that exists despite the unknown.
They’re the last record of that time.
You know the one I mean: that time when it’s just the two of you (& a golden doodle) and life is perfect even in the middle of change and hormones and stretchy pants and you just can’t even imagine your heart growing any bigger.
(Don’t worry. It will.)
They’re a testament to the foundation of your family. To the two that started it all.
And having those images?
It’s worth it over and over again. :)

Emily is one of my closest friends in Indianapolis, and I was over-the-moon thrilled when she told me they were pregnant. (Also, Emily — that seems like it was yesterday!! How has your pregnancy flown by so quickly?!)
She and James asked for me to document this special time in their marriage, and I am so so glad they did.
After all, the next time we’re photographing the Laynes in this room, there will be a new snuggly baby in their arms!! :)

Emily,
Motherhood has never looked better on anyone else.
You are strong, beautiful, and kind, and your little one is going to adore calling you momma.
